Most Popular Hybrid Cars in the Philippines

Hybrid cars are powered by conventional engines, one or more electric motors and a hybrid battery. It uses more than one means of energy, using petrol or diesel engine and electric motors. These components work together to move the vehicle.

Here are the list of most known hybrid cars in the country:

Toyota Corolla Altis

The twelfth generation of Toyota Corolla Altis is the first Corolla generation with a Hybrid option. This P1,595,000 Corolla Altis Hybrid has a 1.8-liter 16-valve dual overhead cam in-line 4-cylinder gasoline paired with an electric motor joined with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Its combined power is up to 121 hp and 142 Nm torque with a top speed of 190 kph. The average fuel consumption is at 22.7 km/L — delivering better and excellent fuel consumption compared to conventional engined-cars. 

Corolla Cross Hybrid

Just like the Altis, Corolla Cross Hybrid is a 1.8-liter gasoline engine paired with an electric motor and mated with CVT. It has a combined power output of 120 hp and 142 Nm of torque — 1 less horsepower than its sedan counterpart. This P1,650,000 compact crossover is expected to consume 23.5 km/L in a city drive, delivering strong economy figures as it should. 

Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius is one of the first hybrid hatchbacks in the country. Powered by a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor paired with CVT, this hatchback costs P2,339,000. It has a combined power capacity of 100 hp and torque of 163 Nm. 

Geely Azkarra

The Geely Azkarra is the Chinese brand’s entry into the compact crossover segment. The crossover comes with a mild hybrid system combined to a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine pushing for cleaner technology. Combined power figures equate to 190 hp and 300 Nm of torque. 

Geely Okavango

The Geely Okavango is the third model released by Geely Philippines. Just like the top of the line Azkarra, the Okavango is powered by a mild hybrid system partnered with a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 190 hp and 300 Nm of torque.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Under the hood is a 2.4-liter gasoline engine that produces a combined power of 126 hp and 199 Nm torque. Mitsubishi Outlander is the only plug-in hybrid on the list. The electric motor alone produces 137 Nm of torque which is more than enough to get the clean energy SUV running. Its twin electric motor is capable of delivering power independently to the rear and front wheels making it a 4WD vehicle. This makes it a totally worth it vehicle to purchase with it retailing at P2,998,000.
